[Update #2]: I'm afraid I have some bad news. Overwatch 2 will be drastically downscaling the scope and amount of its long-awaited PvE missions.

[Update]: Overwatch 2's April 25th update has rejigged Lifeweaver's keybinds and buffed a bunch of his abilities.

After having us wait for quite a while, the Overwatch 2 team has now finally unleashed the next support hero... and it's quite an interesting one! To put it simply, Lifeweaver is a mobility focused support that can mess with the positioning of both enemies and allies, which as you might imagine can lead to some insane (or insanely bad) plays.

First things first, allow me to share with you the gameplay trailer as that should give you a pretty good idea of just what Lifeweaver's toolkit is trying to do. Have a peek, it's quite an intriguing hero design:

While his abilities and overall numbers need some buffs in order to make him more competitive, I really do like the idea behind Lifeweaver. He isn't just a generic support that spews out healing and has the occasional bit of utility. With Lifeweaver, the utility is the main reason you're picking him, and that utility has the potential to be immensely powerful if used well.

Right now that potential has yet to be realized, but after a couple of patches (one of which is already in the works) I can definitely see things looking quite a bit differently. Whether that's going to be the case in the chaotic ranked matches or purely something for the highest tiers of the Overwatch League, however, that I'm not so sure about. Either way, it should be interesting to follow Lifeweaver's evolution!

Besides Lifeweaver, the Season 4 update has also brought with it some much-needed improvements to Competitive Play. The matchmaking has been tightened up, seasonal rank decay and map pools have been removed after months of complaints, you can now earn a lot more Competitive Points than before, and perhaps most importantly when it comes to match quality, consistently disruptive players and leavers are now going to be punished more severely.

You can check out the full list of changes, as well as the accompanying bug fixes, over at the Overwatch 2 forums.

Have fun with Lifeweaver, and I'll make sure to let you know once his big batch of buffs finally arrives.
