MTG Arena artwork for the Battle for Baldur's Gate Alchemy set

[Update #2]: Wizards of the Coast has now unveiled all of July's Baldur's Gate cards!

[Update]: MTG Arena's June 2nd update is adding new cards and long requested quality-of-life improvements.

In an effort to spice up the struggling Alchemy format MTG Arena will be bringing in the Commander focused Battle for Baldur's Gate set on July 7th, 2022. Instead of being a simple copy, however, MTG Arena's Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate set will rebalance a bunch of cards with 1v1 play in mind, as well as add a couple of all-new extras.

As the name might imply, Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate will be fully legal in the Alchemy format, as well as in Historic and Historic Brawl. Out of the three, Historic Brawl is likely going to be the format that benefits the most from its inclusion as the influx of new commanders and ramp artifacts should significantly shake up the meta.

While the full list of new cards has not been revealed just yet, you can get a pretty good impression of what Battle for Baldur's Gate is all about by checking out the official card gallery. When it comes to the rebalanced and MTG Arena exclusive cards, I'm afraid we'll have to wait a little while longer in order to find out more.

The final thing worth mentioning is that Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate will be a fully fledged set with its own booster packs, Mastery Pass and limited game modes like draft. Whether this will be a Commander-style draft or a classic draft, that is once again shrouded in mystery.

Once more information becomes available, ideally alongside a list of rebalanced cards, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, good luck with the freshly launched Streets of New Capenna quick draft!
