Mafia 3 is set in the open world of 1968 New Bordeaux, a city inspired by New Orleans and complete with era-appropriate cars, fashion, music, and naturally, dialect. You will be put in to the shoes of Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam veteran and ex member of the black mob, a gang that ended up being betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia.

What follows next is a good old fashioned revenge story where Lincoln attempts to build his new empire atop the ashes of the old one, and carve his way through the ranks of those responsible for the betrayal of his surrogate family. In short, don't expect to see any upstanding citizens in Mafia 3. Here's the story trailer:

I've never actually played any of the Mafia games, mostly because the theme of organized crime doesn't really appeal to me, but a properly motivated and maturely told revenge story can be quite the thrilling experience, so here's to hoping that Mafia 3 manages to do just that.
