Legends of Runeterra mountain climber artwork

[Update]: Legends of Runeterra is introducing its first co-op event on January 13, 2021.

When it comes to card games, more is always better. A few balance patches here and there are all well and good, but it is the massive influx of new cards from an expansion that really shake the meta up and create a fresh and exciting environment for everyone to mess around with. With that in mind, I'm happy to say that Legends of Runeterra has just received a brand new expansion!

The Monuments of Power set brings with it 3 fancy new champion cards (Shyvana, Soraka, and Tahm Kench), as well as 40 new cards in total. The most exciting part of this batch of cards is the brand new card type - Landmark. These are cards that use up a slot on the board, yet cannot attack or defend. Instead, they provide you with a passive bonus for as long as they remain in play, which is a classic risk vs reward arrangement and something that will fit quite nicely within Legends of Runeterra.

While the recently posted trailer sadly doesn't highlight this new mechanic in action, it does at least showcase the new champions in a rather exciting way. Have a gander, it's a pretty fun one:

If you fancy yourself a competitive player, it's also worth mentioning that Monuments of Power has brought with it seasonal tournaments. While the details are currently lacking, the 'only' thing you need to do in order to qualify is be within the top 700 ranked players within your region, after which you'll have a chance to compete in the tournament and perhaps even become a pro.

You can read a little bit more about this, as well as check out some of the other changes that arrived alongside the Monuments of Power expansion, over at the official website. Have fun experimenting with the new stuff!
