[Update]: Back 4 Blood has now landed onto PC and consoles, and so far it's looking pretty solid.

After a rather revealing Open Beta, the Left 4 Dead inspired Back 4 Blood is now slowly getting ready for its full release. You can expect to see the zombie hordes arrive on October 12, 2021 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

If you haven't played the beta and you're now wondering just what Back 4 Blood is all about, as well as how closely it follows the Left 4 Dead formula, you can find your answers in one of the recent trailers. Have a peek:

As for my opinion, after playing the beta I have to admit I'm cautiously optimistic about Back 4 Blood. The Open Beta was quite obviously flawed, and nearly unplayable if you were trying to slug it out solo with bots, but the stuff that was good was really, really good. Once I had managed to wrangle three friends to play it with me I ended up having a blast slicing and dicing my way through the hordes, especially on the hardest difficulty which required a surprising amount of teamwork to go through even the very first level.

So as far as I'm concerned, Back 4 Blood is not a game you should pre-order, but it's definitely one you should keep an eye on if you enjoy these types of co-op shooters. Right now it's on the knife's edge between being straight up amazing or just plain ol' disappointing, and until it fully releases I don't think any of us will truly know which side it'll fall on.

Once Back 4 Blood goes live I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a bit more about it over at the official website.
