[Update #2]: Arkane's awesome stealth game Dishonored - Definitive Edition is free to grab until January 5th, 2023.

[Update]: The giveaway for December 27 has now arrived, and it's the action-metroidvania F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch.

In celebration of the holiday season the Epic Games Store is giving away a brand new game each day, all the way until December 29th. So if you're itching for something interesting to cuddle up to over the winter months, you'll be happy to hear that today's freebie is none other than Death Stranding!

Before you get too excited, it's important to mention that this is the base version of Death Stranding we're talking about. In other words, the Director's Cut upgrade and its additional missions, equipment and quality-of-life improvements are not included. On the positive side, the upgrade will only set you back 6€ during the current sale, so if you find yourself liking Death Stranding it's well worth grabbing.

As for whether Death Stranding itself is worth the time and effort, that's a tricky question to answer. I say this because Death Stranding is rather unique in the sense that large stretches of its gameplay require very little effort on your part - you're mostly just there for the ride. Because of this, Death Stranding is always going to be a highly divisive game with people either hating it or loving it, with very few falling somewhere in the middle.

Given that its entirely free, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. That said, don't force yourself to keep playing in order to reach the 'good part' if the gameplay doesn't capture your attention in the first few hours. That path will only lead you to frustration.

Have fun, and I'll leave you with the lengthy launch trailer - just to give you an idea of what Death Stranding is trying to do:
