[Update]: Helldivers 2's first balance update has now landed, and it's unfortunately a very messy one. Thankfully, at least the mechs are great!
If you were eagerly waiting for the mechs to arrive ever since they were teased in that one pre-launch trailer, I'm happy to say I bring good news! According to a brief Tweet, the EXO-45 Patriot Exosuits will soon be heading to a battlefield near you!
I'd love to tell you more, but I'm afraid the details are currently nonexistent. That said, Arrowhead have previously revealed that they will be releasing a major update on the second Thursday of each month, so there's a pretty good chance the EXO-45 will be launching on March 14th. This is obviously just speculation, however, so don't get too attached to that day just yet.
Furthermore, if Helldivers 1 is any indicator, the EXO-45 is likely to be a one-use Stratagem with limited ammo but formidable firepower. However, Helldivers 2 is a very different game than its predecessor, especially when it comes to the amount of ranged firepower the enemies can field, so it's entirely possible the mechs are going to use a cooldown system or some other trick to keep them at least somewhat viable at higher difficulty levels.
As for how exactly the EXO-45 will be unlocked, that's yet another mystery. Option number one is that they will be purchasable with Credits like any other Stratagem, in which case everyone will be able to get their own mech fairly easily. Option number two is that it comes as a part of the Premium Warbond (Battle Pass) we know is coming with the update, in which case it'll likely take a decent bit of time to unlock them. Needless to say, I hope it's the first option.
Once we get some actual information, or the EXO-45 goes live, I'll make sure to let you know as I'm excited myself. Until then, I'm afraid all we can really do is liberate a couple of planets while we wait.
[Update]: My 70+ hour review of Helldivers 2 is now out, and I'm delighted to say that the game is indeed phenomenal!
