From the very moment Hearthstone entered closed beta, a couple of years ago by this point, there was a large movement pushing for the introduction of an in-game tournament system. It didn't really matter how it was done, the only thing that mattered was giving people a chance to compete for some nifty prizes in a serious, almost-pro environment. Unfortunately, all those requests fell on deaf ears and even after multiple expansions and adventures we still don't have anything even remotely resembling a tournament system.

On the positive side, that previous statement is soon going to be a dirty, dirty lie as Blizzard has just announced the Heroic Brawl - a brand new Tavern Brawl that will offer you a chance to compete for some truly amazing prizes (which include 50 packs and 3 golden legendaries), though at a significant cost! If you're wondering how exactly all of this works, here's a brief developer video with Designers Dan Emmons and Pat Nagle (yes, the one and only Nat Pagle):

If you couldn't be bothered to actually watch the video, here's the short version: For an entry fee of $10 or 1000 gold you will be able to participate in a Heroic Brawl that lasts for one normal Tavern Brawl week, or until you complete a limited amount of runs (pretty much like Arena). The better you do, the more rewards you get, but unlike Arena the rewards for Heroic Brawl are actually pretty damn bad until you get a couple of wins under your belt, so make sure to bring forth your A game... by which I mean your midrange Shaman deck!

So what are these rewards? Well, I'm glad you asked because I have the list right here. Have a look:

While I would prefer to have a proper tournament system that doesn't rely on a specific Tavern Brawl, I'm still happy Blizzard has decided to at least experiment with the idea. If it ends up being a wild success, who knows, we might get to have weekly tournaments with some pretty exciting prizes! Not only that, but the prevalence of certain decks might even force Blizzard to start actively balancing Hearthstone, which is also something I've been hoping would happen for years now!

Whatever the case may be, you can expect to see the Heroic Tavern Brawl arrive in 1-2 days, depending on your timezone. And before you jump in, make sure you're prepared for some cutthroat competition, because with this much money on the line - people will take this seriously!
