Half-Life: Alyx official artwork and logo from Valve

[Update]: Half-Life: Alyx has now been released, and I'm pleased to say it's been well worth the wait!

After not doing anything with the Half-Life series for what feels like an eternity, Valve recently came out to announce that they are working on a brand new VR game set in the Half-Life universe. Thankfully, we don't have to wait for another eternity in order to learn more as Valve has now officially unveiled Half-Life: Alyx!

The story will take place between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, and as you might imagine, Alyx Vance and her father Eli will be working towards undermining the Combine regime through any means possible. As for the gameplay itself, you'll get a pretty good idea of what to expect through the recently posted teaser trailer. Have a gander:

Most importantly of all, Half-Life: Alyx will have a fully fledged level editor and integration with the Steam Workshop. In other words, pretty much anyone will be able to build their very own levels and campaigns, and then share them with the whole world at the press of a button. Early on these levels are likely to be highly experimental and fairly short, but as the community gets more comfortable with the tools, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them end up being downright spectacular. After all, Valve has quite a storied history with mods for their games, so hopefully Half-Life: Alyx will continue the trend!

You can learn more about Half-Life: Alyx, as well as follow any future updates, over at the official website. If you're just wondering about the release date, however, Half-Life: Alyx will be coming at some point in March for all of the major VR platforms.
