[Update #2]: It took over a decade for us to get here, but Armored Core VI will finally be launching on August 25th, 2023!

[Update]: It looks like the rumors were true after all! FromSoftware has unveiled Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon!

According to Red Liquorice over at the Resetera forums, Dark Souls studio FromSoftware appear to be working on a new Armored Core game. I originally didn't feel like talking about this since the rumors were purely hearsay and thus easy to fake, but things have definitely changed today as a whole bunch of screenshots were just added as proof!

So as long as this isn't some sort of highly elaborate hoax, the new Armored Core will take place on the ravaged planet of Bashtar where a mysterious substance called Melange was freshly discovered. As is tradition, a whole assortment of factions will attempt to claim the substance, thus sparking a massive war in which we as mercenaries will play a key part.

On the gameplay side of things, FromSoftware is planning to create a massive and multi-layered map to really emphasize all of the movement options available to the mechs. The mechs themselves will also be highly customizable and can be outfitted with everything from long-range guns to more 'personal' weapons like blades and shields. And naturally, in keeping with FromSoftware tradition, the focus seems to be on creating a highly challenging and engaging experience.

Once we get a proper announcement with more gameplay details I'll make sure to let you know. For now, however, I'd recommend against getting too excited as even if the rumors are 100% true, it's still possible that this new Armored Core will need many more years of development before it's finally ready.
