Sunless Sea is one of those bizarre games that on the surface doesn't seem like it should be interesting but is actually gripping enough to keep you playing for dozens of hours. Even though I never finished it as the difficulty becomes downright unfair in the "end game" I still think of Sunless Sea fondly as its doomed world, muted graphics and brilliant writing hold a special charm for me.

Which is why I'm happy to tell you that the short gameplay preview of Sunless Sea's upcoming Zubmariner expansion is just as dread-inducing and stylish as the base game. Take a look:

Rather than having to purchase a special and probably ridiculously expensive submersible, your craft can be upgraded with a z-shell which allows it to transform in to a zubmarine (I'm starting to see a pattern here).

To help you out in the deep, dark unknown your craft will be able to emit a much more powerful light though that seems like a blessing in disguise given that a giant manta ray goes over the ship at one point. Without giving away much let me just say that giant manta rays aren't the scariest things that inhabit Sunless Sea's waters.

As of right now there is no official release date set for the Zubmariner expansion, nor much gameplay information available but it does seem to be embodying everything that made Sunless Sea great so I for one am looking forward to it.
