Fallout 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, a truly classic RPG that has managed to combine compelling characters, a choice-driven narrative and plenty of cheesy humor into something unique and special. So imagine my surprise when I recently bumped into a newly released Fallout 2 mod, not one that just reskins a few characters or adds a couple of weapons, but one that can stand as a game of its own!

Fallout 1.5: Resurrection is a "new, old-school Fallout", a mod for Fallout 2 with a completely new story that takes place between the events of Fallout 1 & 2, and brings with it a whole bunch of new locations, NPCs, and naturally, choices to make. Here's the trailer to give you an idea of what Resurrection is all about:

I haven't yet given Resurrection a try, but from what little googling around I've done the community reception seems to be stellar. There are a few odd bugs here and there, but for the most part Resurrection offers the exact same type of experience as Fallout 2, and for the fans of the genre that should be all the praise you'll ever need to hear.

If you would like to give Resurrection a try, you can download it for free by heading over here. You will need any version of Fallout 2 in order to install Fallout 1.5: Resurrection, but the process itself is literally as simple as clicking on the installer. And don't worry about fiddling with the HD texture packs in order to make Fallout 2 not look like dirt, they are already bundled as a part of the Resurrection installer.

Finally, if you would like to learn more about the story or just Fallout 1.5: Resurrection in general, head over to the official website, you'll find everything you're looking for right there.
