Dota 2's Vorgos the Underlord art work

After being mercilessly teased and alluded to for nearly three years now, Valve has finally unleashed Underlord (aka Pit Lord, aka Abyssal Underlord) upon the Dota 2 world as a part of The Dark Rift update. Best of all, with Underlord now a part of Dota 2's roster we have officially achieved full hero parity with Dota 1!

So what exactly is Underlord all about? Well, according to Valve you'll be able to "conjure waves of abyssal flame to immolate enemies held paralyzed in your spiteful grip. Feast upon the carnage of battle, gaining strength as foes perish around you, their attacks diminished by your very presence. Tear a rift in reality to teleport yourself and your teammates across the map, delivering bloody retribution to any who would defy the will of Vrogros the Underlord."

Since that means very little in terms of actual gameplay, allow me to give you a brief rundown of his abilities. The first and definitely the most iconic ability is Firestorm, an area-of-effect spell that deals continuous fire damage over a large area. In order to ensure all of your enemies taste the full brunt of the Firestorm we have Pit of Malice, a large AOE spell that traps and damages enemy units. The third basic spell is Atrophy Aura, which as you might imagine weakens nearby enemies and grants bonus damage to the Underlord. Finally, his ultimate is Dark Rift and it allows the Underlord to teleport himself and nearby allies to a selected friendly unit, which might not sound powerful on paper, but is actually quite ridiculous.

Along with Mr. Vrogros the Underlord, The Dark Rift update has also added an extensive post-game summary. It also might not sound like much, but this new feature packs a variety of detailed reports on all aspects of player and team performance that will hopefully assist you in becoming a better player. Scoreboards, graphs, flow charts that visualize critical turning points, all of this will now be available for your viewing pleasure, both after the game and in an online archive.

Have fun with Pit Lord, but do try to not teleport your team into certain doom!
