Don't Starve: Shipwrecked is the latest expansion for Don't Starve

When Don't Starve originally appeared it was a breath of fresh air for a survival genre that was unfortunately stuck in an endless cycle of copying Minecraft, failing, and trying again. It brought with it a ton of content, a bizarre world to explore, and most importantly, actually challenging gameplay that only got tougher over the years as expansions rolled in.

And if that wasn't enough for you, you'll be glad to hear that the recently released Shipwrecked DLC brought with it a whole ocean's worth of new content to Don't Starve. Here's the trailer and a bit of info on what to expect from Shipwrecked:

Shipwrecked was developed in collaboration between Klei Entertainment and CAPY, creators of the excellent Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery, so just from that alone I think you can give an accurate guess about the quality of the expansion.

As far as gameplay features are concerned, you will be able to build yourself a boat navigate the high seas, explore a bunch of new biomes filled with tropical resources, hunt down various new creatures such as the surprisingly deadly flightless birds, craft an array of new gadgets and trinkets to make survival an actual possibility, and ideally avoid becoming lunch for the creatures that lurk in the murky depths below.

There's also some new characters to chose from, such as this monkey that at first glance seems to be smoking the world's biggest cigarette, as well as a set of tropically inspired seasons and weather phenomena that will try their hardest to make you downright miserable before they kill you.

The best part of it all is that even though Shipwrecked is Don't Starve's biggest expansion, it will only set you back $5/€5 on Steam (with a 10% discount for the next 24 hours). I have nothing but praise for both Don't Starve and the developers that worked on it, so if this is the sort of thing you might be interested in, then by all means, give it a shot.
