[Update]: Chrono Cross' big HD remaster has now arrived, though sadly alongside a cacophony of complaints.

Set in the same world as the phenomenal Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross is a 1999 RPG that has managed to garner quite a cult following over the years. So if you're curious what the hubbub is all about, or if you're just in the mood for a bit of nostalgia, you might be interested to hear that the freshly announced HD remaster Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will be arriving on April 7th, 2022 for PC and consoles.

The new and improved version will bring with it HD character models, higher quality music, the ability to change the resolution, as well as the option to switch between the old pixel font and a new, more legible HD font. On the gameplay side of things, Chrono Cross will also bring with it the ability to turn enemy encounters on or off, an auto-battle function, as well as a couple of other enhancements to make combat a bit smoother.

Most importantly of all, and the reason for its title, The Radical Dreamers Edition will also bring with it an updated version of the 1996 text adventure Radical Dreamers. The game served as a side-story to Chrono Trigger, wrapping up some of its loose ends, and was eventually the inspiration for Chrono Cross and some of its narrative. So if you're a fan of the series it's well worth a look, especially since it has a much darker tone than the original Chrono Trigger.

You can get a little bit of a teaser of what all of this looks like in action through the recently posted announcement trailer. Have a gander:

Once Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition arrives I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, you can read a few more tidbits about the HD remake over at the Square Enix website. Enjoy!
