Dragon Age artwork from BioWare

A few years back live service games became incredibly popular, and so pretty much the majority of big studios tried to get a slice of the pie by adding similar features to their games. Sometimes this move ended up not damaging the game in any meaningful way, and sometimes it resulted in games like Anthem - a confused mess that failed to please either side of the argument.

Thankfully, with the success of purely singleplayer games like Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the pressure to make every single game have grindy multiplayer elements has eased down significantly. So much so that Dragon Age 4, a game that has long-since been rumored to have aforementioned live service elements, has now been confirmed as a single-player focused experience!

"Speaking of building new worlds and stories for you to explore, we want to let you all know that we're still hard at work on building the next single-player focused experience for Dragon Age," reads BioWare's brief update. "We're excited for next year when we can talk more about what we're working on. Until then, we’ll leave you with two new short stories from the world of Dragon Age!"

Naturally, this doesn't mean that the next Dragon Age game will be purely singleplayer. It's entirely possible it'll have multiplayer elements, though those will most likely be separated from the main game and mostly something you mess around with after the fact. BioWare has already shown they know exactly how to do this with Mass Effect 3, so I can only hope that the next Dragon Age will find a nice balance as well.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once BioWare finally spills the details. Until then, I'll leave you with the original teaser trailer for the next big Dragon Age game. Enjoy!
