Battlefield 5 concept art of tanks moving towards a village

It is no secret that the battle royale genre is currently ridiculously popular, so much so that PUBG still averages nearly a million concurrent players on Steam alone. However, despite the genre's rampant growth, very few AAA studios have announced a version of their own. With that in mind, you might be interested to hear that DICE is the first to break the silence as they have just revealed that Battlefield 5 will have a battle royale game mode!

According to the brief announcement message, the Battlefield 5 battle royale mode will be centered around three gameplay pillars: destruction, team play and vehicles. The details are still few and far between, but I must admit I'm quite curious to see how DICE plans to pull this off. Vehicles tend to be incredibly powerful yet easy to defeat through teamwork and specialized weaponry, the second of which might not be as readily available in a battle royale mode. So how exactly are we going to stop someone from rampaging in a tank?

Whatever the answer might be, it's still a good thing for the battle royale genre to get another competitor with experience in large-scale multiplayer. After all, Battlefield has always been about gigantic battles, so even a completely basic battle royale mode is going to be quite enjoyable just based off that and the shooting mechanics alone. Anything added after that is just icing on the cake, delicious and highly explosive icing!

Once more information surfaces I'll make sure to let you know as I'm quite curious myself, but until then I'll leave you with the recently posted multiplayer trailer. It'll at least give you a bit of an idea of what the battle royale game mode might look like. Enjoy!
