The Sims 4 official artwork showing off a variety of characters

If you're curious about The Sims 4 and yet you've somehow managed to avoid giving it a try after all of these years, consider today your lucky day! I say this because EA and Maxis have just made the base version of The Sims 4 free to play!

This means you can create a unique character, customize their house, have them engage in a variety of activities and most likely ruin their life in the process without spending even a single dime. Naturally, the one big catch is that none of the DLCs have been included with the free version. So if you ever get tired of the vanilla experience and want to expand your world, you'll have to individually buy some of the many, many, many pieces of DLC.

That is a problem for another time, however, as the base version of The Sims 4 has enough content to keep you entertained for quite a while. This goes doubly so if you're a particularly creative person as you can extract a lot of enjoyment from carefully sculpting your Sim's home and life in general. As such, despite the avalanche of DLCs looming over it, I would still recommend diving into free version of The Sims 4 if you're even remotely interested in the series.

It's also worth mentioning that EA has sent out a little gift to veteran players. Basically, anyone who has owned The Sims 4 before October 17th has been granted the Desert Luxe Kit (pictured below) for free. Much like the name would suggest, the Desert Luxe Kit features a variety of fancy furniture inspired by desert landscapes. It's not exactly a lot of content to mess around with, but it's still a nice gesture.

You can give The Sims 4 a try, as well as check out some of the DLCs while they're still on sale, over at Steam. Enjoy!
