If the relatively recent Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition got your RPG juices flowing you'll be happy to hear that the brand new expansion titled Siege of Dragonspear is right around the corner.
Siege of Dragonspear is a 25 hour long campaign set between the events of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 and represents an excellent reason to once again revisit the Sword Coast. Here's the brief trailer and a bit more info on what exactly to expect from Siege of Dragonspear:
"The threat of war looms over the city of Baldur's Gate. A crusade marches from the north, seizing supplies, forcing locals into military service, and disrupting trade along the Sword Coast. A charismatic warrior known as the Shining Lady leads this army, her background shrouded in mystery. Rumors whisper that she follows a divine agenda. Could the gods truly guide this Shining Lady?
The farther you travel from the city, the more you realize how many forces have a stake in the outcome of this conflict. Baldur's Gate has put its faith in you, but you must determine whose interests you truly serve before you face the Shining Lady among the ruins of Dragonspear Castle..."
The first question that's likely on everyone's mind is whether the original cast of characters will be along for the ride, to which the answer is a resounding yes. I mean, it wouldn't be a Baldur's Gate game without Minsc and Boo, now would it? Naturally, there will also be some new additions, four of them to be specific, though that's as far as information on them goes.
Along with the new characters there will also be over 100 new items (almost double the number in all other enhanced editions combined), an extra class in the form of the Spirit Shaman as well as two special difficulty settings: Story Mode that trivializes combat and allows you to just focus on absorbing the narrative and Legacy of Bhaal Mode that is there to make you suffer offer a challenge only the most worthy of players will be able to surmount.
As before, you will be able to bring all your friends on adventures with you given that Siege of Dragonspear supports cross-platform multiplayer with up to 6 people.
Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear is releasing on March 31st at a $40 price tag though there might be cheaper options available given that this one is tagged as a "Digital Deluxe" which tend to be pricier.
