The official artwork for the upcoming Prey game

The original Prey was about as straightforward as it gets. You played as an angry, drunken Native American that's trying to save his girl from the evil aliens in the only way he knows how - by blasting them into teeny weeny bits and pieces. Prey (2) on the other hand... well, let's just say that things aren't as simple anymore.

Your character this time around is apparently some sort of alien hybrid, you're fighting against shadows that put Slenderman to shame, and one of your abilities allows you to turn into a cup... A CUP! What might come as the biggest surprise, however, is that Prey actually looks pretty damn interesting. If you're having trouble believing that after learning about the main character's amazing cup-based superpower, here's a recently posted preview video showcasing most of the gameplay elements present in Prey:

Even though this new Prey shares the name with the original classic, I must admit it reminds me less of the old Prey, and more of Bioshock. Scarce ammo, a desolate and derelict station, superpowers you acquire by stabbing yourself with various needles you found on the ground, and most importantly, enemies that are designed to scare the living hell out of you - it all fits!

Whether this will actually be the case when we're looking at proper gameplay, I have no idea, but I'm afraid we're going to have to rely on developer previews for a while longer as Prey is set to arrive at some point in 2017. But whatever the case may be, the gameplay they've shown so far has been rather... intriguing. If nothing else, I would love to give it a shot as it seems to be scratching the exact same itch as Bioshock and System Shock.
