Apex Legends artwork showing off Bloodhound

If you're like me, then your Apex Legends experience over the past month has been a bit of a bittersweet one. While the game itself is highly enjoyable, it unfortunately suffers from a variety of crashing issues that can occur at pretty much any moment, whether you're just dropping out of the ship or fighting the final squad. There are a ton of home-made fixes for this online, but despite trying my best to sort it all out, I've never managed to get Apex Legends to behave properly.

With that in mind, I am delighted to say that Respawn has now released a patch that is supposed to prevent some of the most common crashes out there. Naturally, there are still some underlying issues the team is yet to identify, but they are confident that they have managed to significantly improve the situation for the majority of the affected players.

"As an analogy, imagine you've got thousands of robots tasked with painting different parts of an entire city, where each robot is given one of a dozen colors of paint," reads the official update. "Occasionally, somebody complains that one of the rooms that was supposed to be red has some blue on the wall, but they don't tell you which room. Based on that information, your job is to go fix it! This is why it’s been difficult to quickly identify, reproduce, fix, and test fixes."

"But the apex_crash.txt files we got from players had a lot of information that we needed. In our analogy, those clues let our engineering team figure out which building had the bug, and a way to temporarily make the robots in that building a million times more likely to interfere with each other. We had never seen the crash in any of our internal testing before, but now we could finally reproduce the bug and that meant we could find it and fix it! To finish our analogy, our robots didn't interfere even in this temporary test case, and we knew the bug was fixed."

The team is still working on improving stability across the board, so if you end up crashing or running into some particularly nasty problem, make sure to post your apex_crash file onto the official forums. Chances are you won't get any sort of response, but it should help Respawn get an idea of what's causing all of this madness and how to fix it for everyone.

Once more information becomes available, most likely alongside the next update, I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, have fun messing around with the new hero Octane!
