[Update]: New World has been delayed once again, this time around until spring 2021.

In an announcement that is likely to become increasingly more common, Amazon has just revealed that their MMORPG New World has now been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. The new release date has been set for August 25, 2020 while the start of the Closed Beta has been pushed back to July.

"We want to make sure that we have the time needed to make New World the very best it can be for our players," reads the brief developer update. "As a result, we’ve chosen to delay the game’s release in order to reach our quality bar as we work remotely for the foreseeable future."

"We would like to thank our Alpha players for helping us make a better game. The Alpha will remain open as we continue to test and tune our player experience. Between now and our launch on August 25, we will continue to share details on features and content going into the game. We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. We’ll be in touch soon."

Besides news about the delay, the developers have also shared more information about the various invasions you'll have to fend off. They'll appear approximately once every four days, and depending on the strength of the fort in the area, will range from a mild annoyance to an apocalyptic event. Regardless of the outcome, you'll definitely want to participate as all players will be awarded a solid chunk of XP, in-game currency, and naturally, piles of loot.

You can read a little bit more about these invasions, as well as New World itself, over at the official website.
