MTG Arena artwork for the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion

[Update]: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt has now landed alongside the yearly Standard set rotation.

MTG Arena's Innistrad: Midnight Hunt will be arriving this September 16th alongside a whole assortment of new cards. As you might expect given the setting there will be plenty of zombies, werewolves and spirits to mess around with, as well as some new twists on old mechanics.

Speaking of which, there will be three major ones to pay attention to in Midnight Hunt: the day/night cycle, coven and flashback. Here's a brief rundown of what each one does:

Flashback allows you to recast your spells or creatures from the graveyard for an alternate cost. Sometimes this is as simple as casting the spell again before exiling it for good, and other times it can result in the creature transforming before hitting the battlefield.

Coven is a fairly simple go-wide mechanic that checks if you have three (or more) creatures with different power.

The day/night cycle functions very similarly to the old Innistrad transform cards. If it's currently day and you've not played any cards during your turn, it will become night at the start of the next turn. Similarly, if it's currently night and you've played at least two cards during your turn, it will become day at the start of the next turn. A rather fun mechanic as both you and your opponent can influence the cycle, yet can't instantly benefit from the change as it'll only trigger during the next turn!

If all of that sounds like a good bit of fun, you'll be happy to hear that Wizards of the Coast has now released the full list of cards coming in with Midnight Hunt. You can find them over at the Magic website, all neatly sorted by color.

Once the Midnight Hunt expansion goes live I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, have fun brewing up new decks!
