It is said that if a series goes on for long enough, it will eventually head into space. Apparently, this little 'rule' also applies to Age of Wonders as Triumph Studios have just announced Age of Wonders: Planetfall - a seemingly complex turn-based strategy game set in a newly created sci-fi universe!
As you might expect from an Age of Wonders game, Planetfall will have you explore and conquer this new land in a variety of ways, all depending on your type of playstyle. You can try and simply conquer all of the other factions, you can build up a massive empire and slowly advance your way to utopia, you can be a master diplomat and forge alliances with all of your neighbors, or you can just create a doomsday weapon and obliterate pretty much half of the planet.
I would love to go into more details since I'm quite curious myself, but I'm afraid we're going to have to wait until E3 in order to get some concrete information. Until then, however, allow me to share the brief list of features that came with the announcement. Have a gander:
Strategic Turn-Based Sci-Fi Combat
Perfect your combat strategy in intense turn-based battles that offer tactical challenges, a large cast of races, units with customizable weapons, and destructible environments.
Discover a Rich Sci-Fi World
Uncover the history of the fallen galactic empire as you explore lush landscapes. Encounter NPC factions and rival houses, and discover hidden technologies that can strengthen your society.
Planetary Empire Building
Create your own unique House, and build prosperous colonies through economic specializations of planetary sectors and governing doctrines.
Multiple Paths to Victory
Achieve your end goals through conquest, diplomacy or doomsday technologies. Engrossing options with NPC factions and rival Houses won’t make the decisions easy!
Age of Wonders: Planetfall is set to arrive in 2019, though no exact release date has been announced just yet. If you would like to follow its development moving forward, as well as sign up for the newsletter, you should head on over to the official website.
And finally, I'll send you off with the brief teaser trailer. It won't tell you much of anything about the gameplay, but it'll at least give you an idea of the sort of visuals you can expect to see. Enjoy!
