Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition artwork for the Lords of the West expansion

Most games from twenty years ago, even the really good ones, have long-since been forgotten and replaced with more modern variants. Age of Empires 2, however, has not only managed to avoid that fate, but seems to be going through a bit of a renaissance these days with the player count rising month after month!

Things are likely to get even better in the near future as Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has just received a brand new expansion! Lords of the West brings with it two new civilizations to explore (Burgundians and Sicilians), each of which offers their own unique twists and units, as well as three fully voice acted campaigns to mess around with.

You can get a small peek at what these two new factions look like in-game, as well as what the quality of the voice acting is like, through the recently posted trailer. Have a gander, it's a short and to the point one:

Unfortunately, there is one major problem with this update. While the two new factions and three new campaigns have been positively received by the Age of Empires 2 community, the free update that has arrived alongside them has sadly brought in some rather nasty bugs and frequent crashes. So unless you're willing to risk it, I'd highly recommend giving the developers a week or two before diving in - just to be on the safe side.

Whatever your decision may be, you can learn more about Lords of the West, as well as keep an eye on any future updates, over at Steam. Have fun!
