Age of Empires: Definitive Edition official artwork and logo

Age of Empires: Definite Edition has been delayed a couple of times now, with the latest delay pushing its launch date from October 19th to a rather nebulous "early 2018". After all that waiting, delays, and even more waiting, I am now very glad to say that the developers have finally pinned down an official release date - February 20th!

The Definitive Edition will bring with it completely reworked visuals, the ability to play multiplayer online or via LAN, a re-recorded soundtrack alongside a brand new orchestral score, additional narration for every single mission, and perhaps most importantly of all, a greatly improved campaign and scenario editor! For something that's going to cost $20 I really don't think I can ask much more, provided the gameplay ends up being solid anyway.

If you would like to test it out before springing for your wallet, make sure to sign up for the closed beta by heading over to the Age Insider Program. The developers will be adding 100,000 new players into the beta with the next wave on January 29th, so there is a pretty damn good chance you'll end up getting in. Naturally, you're only going to be able to play in the multiplayer mode, but it should still give you a good idea of just how improved the Age of Empires: Definitive Edition truly is. Have fun!
