MTG Arena Mystical Archives Time Warp artwork

[Update #2]: MTG Arena has banned Tibalt's Trickery and Memory Lapse from the Historic format.

[Update]: MTG Arena is pausing development on the long-requested Pioneer Masters set.

To say that the recent MTG Arena tournament was a bit homogeneous would be one heck of an understatement. Not only was every single deck in the final eight blue/red, but five of them (including the winner) were almost exactly the same deck based around cheating in Velomachus Lorehold and using his ability to chain extra turns until the opponent was ground into a fine paste.

After witnessing such a dominating performance, Wizards of the Coast have decided that enough is enough. As such, starting from June 10, 2021 the often problematic Time Warp will be banned in the Historic format.

"Though we often like to see how the metagame adjusts to tournament results like these, when the deck involved has play patterns that prevent the opponent from playing the game and when our data suggests that it lacks a significant number of bad matchups, we favor acting quickly," explains the brief announcement. "For these reasons, Time Warp is banned in Historic."

"We will be monitoring closely to see how the rest of the metagame can adapt, and we are prepared to take further action soon if we do not see things moving in a positive direction."

Much like before, once Time Warp gets properly banned you will be granted a Mythic Rare wildcard in compensation for every single copy you own. So if the ban hasn't gone through by the time you're reading this, it would be prudent to craft yourself four copies of Time Warp as it's essentially a free card.

You won't be able to use it in the Historic format, that's true, but who knows what the future will bring. Maybe it'll be unbanned, or maybe it'll play a key part in some sort of Historic Brawl deck. Either way, there's literally no reason not to grab yourself a full playset while it's on offer.

Once the next big announcement goes live I'll make sure to let you know. Until then, have fun exploring the new meta!
