The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was a visually beautiful game with a rather intriguing story but it garnered a lot of criticism due to the fact that there is basically no real "gameplay" to speak of. It is a part of the rather newly created "exploration" genre where you have no foes opposing you or difficult challenges to overcome, instead the focus is on roaming around pretty worlds solving puzzles and trying to unlock whatever mystery might be present.

Their new game however, according to a job posting, is going to be an open world action-adventure which is quite the departure from The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Luckily for me, since I don't speak Polish and Google Translate isn't the best, Gamepressure already did the translation, it is as follows:

“We are doing a new game and it’s an open world action-adventure. It’ll be rad, but of course we are not going to bite off more than we can chew right away. Anyway, as suggested by the description, this will be more of a game than an explorer like Ethan. Although it will still have heavy atmosphere and deep narrative, it won’t do without men and creatures trying to kill you.”

As I mentioned above many people gave The Vanishing of Ethan Carter a lot of flak but I found it very compelling given that I am a fan of both story and exploration focused games, though I can understand where they come from.

Now with this new, as of yet unnamed game, it seems the major complaint is going to be addressed without sacrificing anything in terms of atmosphere or the narrative. All I can say to that is that my interest is piqued and I'll be keeping an eye on how things develop.

But as of right now there is no more information but if anything comes up I'll make sure to keep you updated.
