Guts from the Berserk video game

For those of you that might not know, Berserk is a long-running manga series that deals with the darkest sides of human nature. Its characters and story are fascinating, its artwork visceral, and there is absolutely no sugarcoating when it comes to portraying the most gruesome parts of warfare.

Given its pedigree, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that there is a Dynasty Warriors styled Berserk game currently in development. If you're wondering what it looks like, here's a relatively recent trailer that shows off a bit of the carnage:

While detailed information is currently in short supply, I can tell you that Berserk will follow Guts through the events of some of the most well-known manga story arcs. As for the gameplay, its inspired by the Warriors franchise (Dynasty Warriors) and as such features plenty of "1 vs 1000" combat, devastating blows that send entire hordes of enemies flying, and also a couple of twists unique to the world of Berserk, things such as Magic and Transformations.

If you're not a fan of Guts for whatever reason, you'll also be able to chose from a variety of other characters depending on the mission, with each one offering a significantly different playstyle. For example, Guts will mostly focus around overwhelming blows and brute strength, while Griffith will be able to dance in and out of combat in an impressive display of swordsmanship.

To learn more about the story or the gameplay mechanics behind Berserk, I'd recommend heading over to the official website. There's not much there right now, but I'd imagine its going to get filled out as we get closed to launch.

Speaking of which, no release date has been given just yet, but it has been confirmed that Berserk will launch for the PC, PS4 and Vita in the West.
