Toxikk arena shooter screenshot of multiplayer

If the modern Doom's multiplayer has left you disappointed and more than eager to play a shooter modeled after the late 90s and early 2000s FPS classics, you might be in luck as Toxikk just recently appeared on Steam. According to its release announcement it features no classes, no loadouts, and no bullshit! Its just you, an entire arsenal of explosive weaponry, and a whole bunch of target dummies players to use them on.

Since trying to describe an FPS game in words alone is a pointless task, especially when it comes to fast paced arena shooters, allow me to instead show you the most recent trailer. It should give you a good idea of where Toxikk draws its influences from, and more importantly, what's the gameplay all about:

If all of this has you intrigued, but you're still not really sure if Toxikk is worth your time and money, worry not as the developers are offering a free version as well. It doesn't come with any disadvantages as far as shooting up other players is concerned, but if you want to experience all of the maps and customize your appearance, you'll have to whip out your wallet and grab the full version. You can read more about the differences between the paid and free versions by heading over here, but here's the gist of it - straight from the developers themselves:

"Note that the Free Edition does NOT HAVE ANY COMPETITIVE DISADVANTAGES versus the Full Game and is NOT some micro-transaction fueled F2P crap, but simply a classic shareware version / demo of the full game. If you decide to buy the Full Game, you really get the FULL game (i.e. ALL customizations and ALL features)."

Toxikk's giant mechs

Giant mechs are always a positive in my book!

While I haven't had the time to try out Toxikk myself, the user reviews and player counts tell a rather impressive story, which I must admit is quite a relief. Far too often these types of arena shooters end up being a barren wasteland in a few months, but with the free version available I hope Toxikk will be able to avoid this problem and continue to hang around for a long, long time.

If you would like to join the fun you can either buy Toxikk on Steam at a 20% discount, which brings the price down to $12/€12, or you can download the free version from the very same place. Have fun!
