Layers of Fear 2 screenshot of a hallway filled with grasping arms

Much like the original, Layers of Fear 2 is a psychological horror game with the focus mostly being on the storytelling and exploration. What this means in gameplay terms is that you'll spend the vast majority of your time traversing some rather beautiful locations, rummaging through everything you can get your hands on in search of story clues, and naturally, running into a whole bunch of messed up imagery along the way!

You can get a pretty good idea of what all of this looks like in action, as well as what sort of atmosphere Layers of Fear 2 cloaks itself with, through one of the developer previews down below. Have a peek:

I would love to say that Layers of Fear 2 is even better than the original, but I'm afraid that the general consensus is actually the opposite. While the presentation appears to once again be phenomenal, it is the controls and pacing that seem to hold Layers of Fear 2 back.

One of the main complaints I've seen throughout numerous reviews is that the scares seem simply thrown in out of obligation, rather than having any real meaning or purpose behind them, and that's a pretty big flaw for a game so focused on psychological horror. So if you do decide to grab Layers of Fear 2, I would highly recommend doing a bit of research before reaching for your wallet, just in case.
