While I certainly enjoy games with mature storytelling and realistic characters, its a bit of a shame that ever since Telltale's The Walking Dead became a massive hit the entire adventure game genre turned all gritty and serious. A far cry from the ridiculousness of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and other such classics.
Thankfully, there are still games such as The Little Acre that remain unaffected. Instead of exploring the depths of the human psyche, The Little Acre is a charming, hand-drawn adventure that will task you with exploring strange worlds populated by bizarre, yet somehow still cute creatures. Here's the most recent trailer to hopefully give you an idea of what The Little Acre is all about:
While very little is known about the gameplay so far, I can tell you that The Little Acre is designed from the ground up as a classic point & click adventure, so expect plenty of puzzling and mousing around. The most interesting feature, to me anyway, is that the teleportation device not only shifts the two main characters between various worlds, but also perspectives! In our "normal" world the perspective is exactly as you would expect from a point & click adventure, but the moment the transfer happens the character are flung into a cutesy isometric world instead. Its certainly a unique idea, and one with a whole lot of potential, so hopefully it ends up being put to good use.
How exactly all of this works, I'm afraid I don't know, but we'll be able to find out soon enough as The Little Acre is set to arrive for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at some point in 2016.
