As the title would suggest, Abandon Ship is a naval strategy/adventure game that's most similar in spirit to FTL. You will need to take control of a single ship and its small crew in order to explore a massive and randomly generated world, solve a variety of quests that for me tend to end with one of my crewmen getting eaten, and naturally, fight off a whole horde of pirates, cultists and other such nasties that would love nothing more than to plunder your ship.

If you're wondering what all of this might look like in-game, wonder no more as the developers have shared posted a launch trailer. The video isn't very long, but it should give you a pretty darn good idea of what to expect from Abandon Ship. Have a look:

I'll have a proper review once I've put in a few more hours, but even now I can comfortably say that Abandon Ship is quite a good game, albeit a very unfinished one. For example, fighting enemies is a great deal of fun, but there are very few enemy types to square off against so you're constantly stuck repeating the same few strategies. Similarly, the random events are an excellent idea, but there are currently just not enough of them so you're going to end up repeating the same ones, over and over again.

It's going to take quite a few months in Early Access for Abandon Ship to become something I can wholeheartedly recommend, but even so I would suggest you keep an eye on it. It really does have some serious potential!

You can learn more about Abandon Ship, as well as follow its development moving forward, by visiting either the official website or Steam. And finally, allow me to leave you with a couple of images, just to help set the mood:
