Ever since its initial Early Access launch, Risk of Rain 2 has seen a steady stream of content updates. All of this eventually culminated with the massive Anniversary update back in April that brought with Bandit as a new survivor, sprinkled in new skills and items, as well as new monsters and even a boss.

Things have slowed down considerably since then, though thankfully it's not because of any sort of bad reason. Instead, it's because the Risk of Rain 2 team is currently working on the very first expansion - Survivors of the Void!

While the whole thing is shrouded in a veil of mystery, I can tell you that Survivors of the Void will bring with it a brand new game mode called Simulacrum. It'll function as a wave-based arena mode where you (and potentially some buddies) will have to face off against endless waves of enemies and bosses. Along the way you'll unlock a variety of artifacts and upgrades which, depending on how long you survive, could see your power level spike to absurd levels before finally getting overrun by your essentially infinite foes.

As for the release date, nothing concrete has been announced just yet, though you can expect to see Survivors of the Void land in early 2022. So once we get more information, ideally alongside a lengthy gameplay preview, I'll make sure to let you know.
