Given Doom's significance and the success of its modern reboot, it was only a matter of time before we saw another wave of Doom-inspired shooters. As you might imagine from that description alone, Prodeus is a retro-styled FPS with a focus on fast paced action, brutal combat encounters, a variety of over-the-top weaponry, and naturally, levels jam-packed with secrets to uncover.

Since a lot of the appeal comes from the visuals and atmosphere, allow me to share with you the recently posted reveal trailer. It's not exactly lengthy, but it'll give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from Prodeus:

Personally, I'm not exactly sure what to think about it. On one hand I do like the idea of a modern Doom clone and I do enjoy the visual style, but on the other hand I could barely see anything throughout the trailer due to all of the excessive blood effects. Now don't get me wrong, I do love my gibs, but they really need to be used somewhat sparingly and in crucial moments in order to really heighten their impact.

Prodeus is set to arrive at some point in 2019, however, so hopefully the developers will have enough time to clean up the visuals and perhaps make the UI a bit less obtrusive. After all, Prodeus could be the best game ever created, but if players can't actually see it, that's not exactly going to mean much!

My little musings aside, you can learn more about Prodeus, as well as follow its development moving forward, by heading over to either Steam or the official website.
