Othercide official artwork and logo

[Update]: Othercide and its rather striking visuals have now landed onto both PC and consoles.

These past few years have been pretty good for fans of turn-based strategy. The genre has not only managed to escape the slump it was stuck in for quite a while, but there are more and more turn-based strategies being announced each month, with all of them seemingly taking the formula in a bit of a different direction.

Needless to say, this applies to the newly announced Othercide as well. It is a turn-based strategy with horror elements, a fetching black-and-white art style, as well as a bit of a unique take on the usual turn-based combat. Instead of simply trading blows with your enemies, Othercide allows you to delay your attacks for maximum impact or to simply interrupt the enemy. If everything starts going south and you run out of options, there are also various reaction skills that give you the opportunity to try and avoid potentially fatal situations at a moment's notice.

While those are certainly powerful tools, I wouldn't get too comfortable as Othercide has quite a few roguelite elements to its name. Expect to see things like permadeath, limited resources, numerous story choices with serious consequences, as well as powerful bonuses that simply cannot be removed once equipped. In other words, don't get too attached to any of your characters as it seems like you'll be going through quite a few of them over the course of Othercide's campaign!

You can get a bit of an idea of what the story is about, as well as what Othercide's art style is like in action, through the recently posted announcement trailer. Have a peek:

Othercide will be coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this summer, though no official release date has been given just yet. You can learn a little bit more about it, as well as follow any developer updates, over at the official website.
