Moonscars dark and gloomy action-adventure artwork

If you're in the mood for slicing and dicing your way through hordes of enemies as you explore a nonlinear 2D world, you might want to take a peek at the recently released Moonscars. To put it quite simply, it's a grim and dreary yet highly atmospheric Souls-like Metroidvania that will task you with overcoming countless challenges in an effort to save yourself from the relentless darkness.

What all of this looks like in actual gameplay, however, that you can get a pretty good idea of through the launch trailer below. Have a gander, it's a rather stylish one:

I haven't played Moonscars myself so take the following with a few grains of salt, but so far the reception seems to be mostly positive. The visuals and music are, unsurprisingly, top-notch, while the combat appears to be deep enough to remain engaging all the way through. What holds Moonscars back is some of the questionable design and balance choices that can make things actively annoying on occasion. So if you're planning to take Moonscars for a spin before the developers patch some of these issues, do be prepared to leap over a couple of roadblocks on your adventure.
