After a couple of quality-of-life focused updates, the Lovecraftian fishing game Dredge has now finally released some new content to explore. The freshly launched The Pale Reach expansion brings with it a bite-sized story about a monster lurking deep beneath the ice, a chilly new biome filled with all sorts of new fish, a variety of new equipment to help you catch said fish, as well as a few other bits and bobs to spice up your playthrough.
What all of this looks like in action, that you can check out through the launch trailer below. Have a gander, it's quite a pretty one:
I've only played The Pale Reach for about an hour so take the following with a few grains of salt, but so far it seems to be just more of the same. It's a different location and you're investigating a different mystery, sure, but the basic gameplay loop is exactly the same. I don't particularly mind as the expansion is quite cheap at 6€, but I definitely would've preferred to see Dredge take a few steps forward instead of simply sticking with what's comfortable.
If that doesn't bother you and you're still aiming to dive in yourself, I'd highly recommend starting a new playthrough over simply using your endgame-ready boat. If you already have everything not only are the rewards a lot less exciting, but it's also far too easy to avoid most of the problems. So if you can, tackle the new DLC in the mid-game as that's what the experience seems to have been balanced around.
Enjoy, and I'll make sure to let you know once the Dredge team announces anything new.
