Darkwood horror game concept artwork showing a devastated tank

[Update]: The next giveaway has arrived, and it's once again an excellent one. Fallout 3: GOTY Edition and the Evoland RPGs are entirely free to grab until October 27th!

If you're looking for an interesting horror game to brave during this Halloween season, today is your lucky day! I say this because the the truly excellent Darkwood is entirely free to grab over at the Epic Games Store!

The giveaway won't last forever, however, so do make sure to snag it before October 20th. Once you've added it to your account you'll be able to play it whenever you want and for however long you want. And while you're there, you can also grab the roguelike ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove since that's also entirely free!

To bring the conversation back to Darkwood, the main reason I find the game to be so intriguing is its utterly oppressive yet mysteriously captivating atmosphere. It doesn't matter where you're going or how well you've prepared yourself - it will always feel like you are in mortal danger, yet you'll likely want to push onward anyway because the world is just so bizarre that you simply can't help but try to figure it out. If that sort of thing sounds like something you might enjoy, I'd highly recommend diving into Darkwood as fresh and unspoiled as possible.

If you need a bit more convincing, however, allow me to leave you with the console launch trailer. That should quite quickly clue you in on just what kind of game Darkwood really is. Enjoy!
