Gunhead is a newly announced and fast paced open-world FPS where you get to play as a pirate mech with a gun for its head. Replacing one's head with a gun might sound excessive, but if you're in the business of looting derelict ships filled with monstrous drones and aliens, I suppose its a price you just have to pay.

If you're wondering what all of this nonsense might look like in-game, wonder no more as the developers have released a brief teaser trailer. It's not very long, but it'll give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from Gunhead... though I have a feeling you already know what's coming. Have a look:

In terms of content Gunhead will feature a persistent and non-linear campaign, as well as a variety of procedurally generated alien starships to conquer. Each ship will present it's own unique challenge, so in order to succeed you will frequently have to choose a different loadout from over 50 unique weapons and items. And since every single game can be improved with the addition of a jetpack, I am very glad to say that one will feature a prominent role in Gunhead as well! The final thing worth mentioning is that Gunhead is essentially a spiritual success to Cryptark, a 2D sci-fi shooter from the same developers.

Gunhead is set to arrive in 2018, though no exact release date or launch platforms have been announced just yet. Cryptark is currently available on PC, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4, so unless something changes I'd say you can expect Gunhead to be available on the same platforms as well.

If you would like to learn a little bit more about Gunhead, or just keep an eye on its development, you should head over to Steam. And finally, here's a couple of stylish images to send you on your merry way:
