Edmund McMillen's Mewgenics turn-based roguelike screenshot from an early build

Mewgenics was originally announced nearly a decade ago, but due to a series of unfortunate circumstances its development was put on indefinite hiatus. Things started looking up for Mewgenics back in 2018 as Edmund McMillen announced that he's "currently prototyping some stuff for it," though once again new information was more or less nonexistent.

While that hasn't changed much in the past four years, I'm happy to say Mewgenics is actually happening this time around as both Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel have been sharing snippets of their work over at Twitter! One of the latest tweets is particularly interesting here as it clearly showcases that Mewgenics is going to be a party-focused and turn-based roguelike.

I'd love to tell you more, but aside for a few brief snippets of gameplay that's pretty much it. Similarly, no release date has been given just yet. However, according to one of the messages from late 2021 Mewgenics is "a couple years away," so expect to see it at some point in 2023 at the earliest.

Whatever the case may be, I'll make sure to let you know once the big announcement goes live as I'm quite eager to find out more myself. Until then, I'll leave you with the original and surprisingly musical teaser trailer. Enjoy!
