[Update]: RimWorld's very first expansion Royalty has now suddenly been released alongside Update 1.1!

In a world where Steam Early Access is most often used as a tool to avoid legitimate criticism, RimWorld stands as a shining example of what it can truly be used for - community interaction, tons of changes, and an endless stream of new content to keep backers occupied. And so, after many years in Early Access, I am very happy to announce that RimWorld has just recently launched in full alongside a nearly perfect (and most certainly well deserved) 97% approval rating on Steam.

For those of you wondering what RimWorld is actually all about, however, it would probably be best to just say that it has been inspired by Dwarf Fortress. That alone should tell you how complex, interwoven, and often times absolutely bloody insane the gameplay can truly get. Thankfully, RimWorld is neither as insurmountable or as unwieldy as Dwarf Fortress, so if you're even remotely interested in experiencing what I can only describe as 'self-writing stories', you should definitely give it a look.

And what better way to do so than by checking out the recently posted launch trailer. It's not exactly a lengthy or incredibly detailed video, but I think it does a pretty good job of capturing the spirit of RimWorld. Have a gander:

If you prefer the written word, however, you should head on over to either the official website or Steam. Have fun, and allow me to leave you with a brief tale about one of my favorite characters so far - Steve the local psychopath:

One fine, misty morning Steve woke up with a mad look in his eyes, and after breaking the legs of the poor doctor that tried to stop him, he wondered outside of camp to fight a grizzly bear bare-handed... a fight he somehow ended up winning! And what did Steve do once the deed was done? Why, he went right back to sleep of course, completely ignoring the doctor that was still sprawled on the floor.

Why in the world did Steve do this and why did nobody stop him, I have absolutely no idea, but that's part of RimWorld's charm - you never really know what sort of... unique characters you'll need to depend on in order to get your entire crew off the planet!
