Total War: Warhammer 2 Dark Elves fighting the High Elves

Total War: Warhammer received a slow and steady influx of free DLC ever since launch, and given how much they have improved the overall quality of the campaign I very glad to say that this tradition will continue into Total War: Warhammer 2 as well! While most of the information is still shrouded in mystery, I can tell you that the very first of these first free DLCs will be the combined campaign - a massive world map bringing together Total War: Warhammer 1 and 2!

Since a realistically combined map would consist of 80% water and empty provinces, there will be some major changes to the continents in order to make them more fun to play around with. Total War: Warhammer 1's campaign map will pass by mostly unchanged, while Total War: Warhammer 2 will lose most of its superfluous factions (for example, there is no need to have 12 different High Elves roaming the map) in order to achieve better balance. And speaking of balance, the Vortex campaign mechanics will not be making an appearance, though there will be some new features added to the oldschool races in the following patches.

More information will be coming in the near future, as will the combined campaign map itself. The exact release date hasn't been given just yet, but Creative Assembly said its a matter of weeks, not months! As for the other DLCs, here's what you can expect:

DLC #1 Mortal Empires combined campaign map

DLC #2 Skaven Legendary Lord

DLC #3 An experiment (most likely involving the Skaven)

DLC #4 High Elf Legendary Lord

DLC #5 Lizardmen Legendary Lord

DLC #6+ teasers are currently hidden from us

Some of Total War: Warhammer 1's free DLCs brought with them brand new starting positions, and I can only hope this will be the case with Total War: Warhammer 2 as well. New Legendary Lords are always fun to play around with, don't get me wrong, but the ability to start in a completely different region of the map is an immense boon to replayability. Whatever the case may be, I'm afraid we're stuck waiting for now as there are simply no more details to share.
