Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak gets a multiplayer trailer a few days ahead of launch

If you aren't familiar with it Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a prequel to the well-celebrated RTS Homeworld 1 and brings with it many of the same mechanics and story elements that made the series good.

Today we finally get a short glimpse at the much advertised Artifact Retrieval game mode where two teams face off to gather and secure, you guessed it, artifacts that spawn periodically in the middle of the map. You can find the video right below:

While the textures on the sandy dunes might not be the prettiest things to look at up close I'm glad that the unit textures and animations look and feel great when zoomed in to. Special mention goes to the dune buggies which sometimes to do cartwheels and other explosive-induced flips as its just hilarious to watch.

That aside its always great to see an RTS that ditches the need to constantly babysit your base and allows you to get out there and mess around with the units and abilities instead. After seeing the things presented here I do wonder what a battle between two really skilled players would look like as they would be forced to juggle so many fronts while at the same time continuing to expand.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak will be coming to Steam this January 20th and as a pre-order bonus it comes with the Homeworld: Remastered Collection which is a rather great deal if you planned on buying it anyway.
