If you're thinking about doing a second playthrough of XCOM 2 you might want to put it on hold for a little while as Firaxis has recently announced a massive expansion. The War of the Chosen expansion is aiming to greatly extend the original story, while also adding three new resistance factions, new enemies, missions, environments, and plenty of new toys to play around with.

While the announcement trailer barely offers a glimpse at some of the new enemies and weapons, it does a really good job of showcasing The Chosen and the overall direction the story is heading in. So if you're up for a little sneak peek you'll find the trailer right below:

Out of all the new content coming in with War of the Chosen it is The Chosen themselves that are the most interesting. Unlike your usual opponents that mostly play fair and fight against you in organized combat, The Chosen prefer to instead attack only where it hurts the most. In other words, expect to see them kidnap and interrogate your soldiers in order to harm your future operations, but also sabotage your headquarters in an effort to slow you down. I'm not sure how all of this will work in terms of gameplay, but as a concept I must admit its pretty damn interesting. For once we'll be the ones that are hunted!

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen will be coming to PC and consoles on August 29, 2017. If you would like to learn more I would recommend heading over to either Steam or the official website. And as a final note, here's a few images showcasing some of the new characters:
