The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition screenshot of snowy ruins

If you're one of the seven people that have never laid their hands on Skyrim, despite it releasing on just about every platform in existence at this point, you'll be glad to hear that you now have a chance to do just that! For the next two days The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition will be completely free to try out on Steam. Simply click that "Play Game" button and you'll be exploring the frozen North in no time.

As for the Special Edition itself, it includes all of the previously released DLCs, as well as new features such as remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, and other such visual improvements. Its not much compared to how significantly mods have altered Skyrim over the years, but for your first playthrough it should do just fine.

If you end up liking what you see, you might also be glad to hear that Skyrim will be on a 50% discount until September 19th. In other words, there's no need to rush. So make sure to get full use out of the free weekend, and then take as long as you need to decide whether Skyrim is worth your money and time. Have fun, and here's the most recent trailer to get you in the proper mood:
