The Dwarves RPG, a screenshot from a cinematic

The Dwarves is an upcoming fantasy RPG inspired by Markus Heitz's novel of the same name, and it brings with it an extensive story campaign filled with "challenging real-time battles". There are 15 playable heroes, each with their own unique skills and abilities, so its going to be up to you to devise the optimal way of bashing in Orc skulls.

It was announced a while back, but as far as I know these are the first bits of gameplay footage that have been released in many months, so its quite interesting to see how much it has improved over time. Here's the trailer and a bit of a surprise as well, Dwarven ladies actually have beards!

If the horribly out of place music is giving you trouble, worry not, the developers have already stated that the game itself will have an orchestral soundtrack. The rock music was used to simply make the trailer go "BAM", but I'm not sure that's really needed when presenting strategy-focused gameplay.

That aside, the actual gameplay seems to draw more inspiration from the ARPG genre rather than the strategy one, what with all the Dwarves having unique abilities and plenty of ways to smack around Orcs and Goblins. I don't consider that to be a bad thing, but its a bit strange to see this advertised as a strategy game when the only strategic element seems to be the pause button. All of that is just my speculation, however, but I'm sure we will be able to find out more during this year's E3.

As for the actual release date, the Steam Store page has it marked for September 2016.
