Games Done Quick official logo and artwork

Summer Games Done Quick (as well as Awesome Games Done Quick) is a community organized event where speedrunners from all over the globe gather together to completely demolish games you know and love, all in the name of charity. Earlier this year Awesome Games Done Quick raised over 2 million dollars for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and this week Summer Games Done Quick will attempt to topple that record for the benefit of Doctors Without Borders.

If you're not exactly sure what these speedrunning events look like, or even why you should care, allow me to show you my personal favorite from this year's AGDQ. Its a two-way Shovel Knight race with quite a few exciting moments, but most importantly of all, plenty of explanations aimed at the those that are still new to the whole speedrunning scene. If you have a bit of time to 'waste' I'd suggest giving it a look:

The past aside, this year's SGDQ will run from July 2nd to July 9th, which means an entire week of non-stop entertainment! The whole event will begin with a pre-show in about 10 minutes (at the time of writing), after which the action will start with newly released NieR: Automata. You can find a full schedule (adjusted to your time zone) by visiting the official website, and the stream itself by going to Twitch. Have fun!
