Styx: Shards of Darkness screenshot featuring a sneaky trip through the darkness

Styx: Shards of Darkness is an upcoming stealth game in the vein of the Thief series. In other words, it features plenty of open-ended levels crawling with guards, a variety of weapons and tools to dispatch them with, and stealth mechanics that revolve around careful planning and execution rather than brainless aggression.

And if you're wondering what all of this might look like in-game, here's the recently posted gameplay trailer showcasing a rather large level and a plethora of tricks and tools. As far as story spoilers are concerned, there is basically nothing to worry about, so feel free to give it a look. Here's the video:

Outside of the player being suicidal and leaving guards alive to raise an alarm and eventually stab him in the fleshy bits, I have to say that this video fills me with a great deal of hope. The gameplay is similar to the original Styx, a game I found myself playing to completion twice already, but with enough polish and interesting mechanics to make it worthy of that sequel status. If Cyanide manages to also fix all of the bugs and performance issues that plagued the original, they might just have something amazing on their hands with Shards of Darkness!

Whether that is going to be the case or not, we'll have to wait for a little while to find out as Styx: Shards of Darkness is set to arrive on March 14th. If you would like to learn more, or just check out some other gameplay videos, head on over to the official website.
