Overkill's The Walking Dead official logo

For those of you that might not be aware, and I wouldn't blame you if you weren't, Payday developer Overkill Software announced their The Walking Dead themed FPS all the way back in the ancient times of 2014. Ever since then the project's release date has been constantly pushed back, and the game itself pretty much forgotten by the general public.

As such, you might actually be surprised to hear that Overkill's The Walking Dead has been postponed once more, this time to the second half of 2018. I'm honestly impressed the game is even still in development given its history, but I guess Starbreeze and Overkill have a lot of faith in it. As is tradition the announcement brought with it no information about the game itself, but if nothing else we at least know that its still in the works!

From what I can tell you about the gameplay, Overkill's The Walking Dead is going to be a co-op shooter with stealth elements. This instantly makes me think of Payday 2 which is exactly the same concept, but with the zombies replaced with hordes upon hordes of special forces. If it does end up being just that, a slightly modified and improved version of Payday 2, I think its going to turn out just fine. It might be slightly derivative, but Payday's gameplay formula has been nearly perfected, so there's no reason why the developers shouldn't apply it to a completely different game as well. But whatever the case may be, hopefully the next pieces of information we get on Overkill's The Walking Dead is not going to be a delay to 2019!
